Physics5–6 questions per year

NEET Modern Physics.

Photoelectric effect, atomic models, nuclei, radioactive decay, semiconductors. Highly scoring because the formulas are limited and recur every year.

Modern Physics is one of the highest yield-per-page chapters. Photoelectric effect (Einstein's equation), de Broglie wavelength, Bohr model (radii, energies, transitions), nuclear binding energy, half-life and decay constant — these are the formulas, and almost every question reduces to plugging values in. Semiconductor questions tend to be conceptual: PN junction, biasing, logic gates.

NCERT chapters to cover

  • 📘Class 12 Ch 11: Dual Nature of Radiation and Matter
  • 📘Class 12 Ch 12: Atoms
  • 📘Class 12 Ch 13: Nuclei
  • 📘Class 12 Ch 14: Semiconductor Electronics

Exam tips

  • 1de Broglie wavelength: λ = 12.27/√V Å for an accelerated electron — comes up regularly.
  • 2Bohr radius for hydrogen: r_n = 0.529n² Å. Energy: E_n = −13.6/n² eV. Memorize.
  • 3Half-life formula: t₁/₂ = ln2/λ = 0.693/λ.
